about

This "album" consists of two sessions I have recorded with the Casio sk1:

Second session
Tracks 1,2,3,4 were recorded on a Zoom H1, at the end of March 2020, beginning of lock down here in Europe. I had just finished another bending session, adding new patchbay terminals and about 20 new preset switches in conjunction with capacitors, diodes and leds that blink in sync with the bend effects, while also dramatically changing the sound. Few more tracks exists from that session that may eventually get released in the future.

First session
Raw cassette tape recordings of my Casio SK1 shortly after a bending session circa 2011-2012. Multiple outputs of the sk1 to different channels on the mixing board, so each voice, bass, drums and each of the 4 polyphony voices can be processed and altered individually. Kind of a Dub mentality, technique and vibe. So there's quite a lot of fading and mixing involved as well as muting individual tracks. Sometimes I filter some signals with analog low pass or high pass VCF and off course there is one of the Spring Reverbs I have built, applied occasionally or even throughout the whole "excerpt"

Both of these are freestyle jam sessions where I am interacting live with sk1, often letting the instrument show me where it goes next. I was trying to get a grasp on the musical potential of the circuit bent Casio sampling keyboard. Live recordings no overdubs.

Throughout these recordings you can hear the potential emerging from the circuit bends as well as the modifications like the multiple outputs and the addition of a voltage controlled analog filter circuit. There are little songs,
circuit bent beats, drones, noise, chance music, glitches and more to be heard. Enjoy if you please!
